About Postern

We built Postern to run our own store.

Made by an operator who works the counter — not a software team building from the outside in.

The origin

It started at the counter.

Postern started at the counter of a real, busy ship center — the kind that does a bit of everything: hundreds of inbound packages a day, walk-in shipping, freight and international forwarding, physical and virtual mailboxes, and the USPS paperwork sitting underneath all of it.

Every one of those jobs came with its own software, and none of them talked to each other — a desktop POS that couldn't go online, a separate virtual-mailbox service that tried to own our customers, a spreadsheet holding compliance together, a filing cabinet of photocopied IDs, and a pile of logins we stitched together by hand every day.

We tried what everyone else uses. Nothing actually ran the whole store the way it works. So we stopped waiting and built our own.

Why we built one system

The problem was never one missing tool. It was the gaps between five.

Our store ran four or five systems that were never meant to meet — one for the counter, one for mailboxes, one for shipping and forwarding, a processor, a spreadsheet for compliance. The gaps between them were where the work piled up: the double entry, the missed notifications, the customer data scattered in five places, the quarterly scramble. Postern exists to close those gaps — to be the one system that does what the five couldn't do together.

Made by a real operator

You can feel the difference in the workflow.

Postern includes the details that only become obvious after years behind the counter:

  • High-volume package intake that notifies the customer in seconds
  • Shipping and forwarding quoted, charged, and printed in one flow
  • One payment rail across the counter and the online portal
  • The hold-and-recover flow for refused or undeliverable mail
  • Compliance that's already true before you sign it

None of these are abstract features. Each one solves a small, repeated problem that used to eat our hours at the counter — so we shaped Postern around how the work actually happens, from the first customer interaction to the final notification, payment, shipment, or compliance record.

What you're actually getting

More than software. A store operating model.

Software alone doesn't tell you how all the pieces should work together.

Postern is built on eleven years of running our own store — learning firsthand how we operate, serve customers, and earn. That experience shapes every connection inside the platform.

A package intake becomes a recorded, billed, and notified event. A walk-in becomes an online customer. A physical mailbox grows into virtual services and recurring revenue. A single live-video verification opens your store to customers far beyond your area.

Because Postern runs live in our own store, these workflows are tested against real volume every day and improved as we grow.

You're not handed a set of blank tools and left to design the business yourself. You begin with a connected operating model — shaped by everything that already works in ours.

"I'm not selling software I hope works. I've run this counter for eleven years — more than 845,000 packages and 50,000 customers — and I rely on Postern in my own store every day."
